On the first day of spring, heavy snow is in the forecast, the National Weather Service says.
Late Monday afternoon, the NWS issued a winter storm watch for southern Connecticut.
“Heavy wet snow possible. Total wet snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches, with locally higher amounts possible,” it said in a 3:52 p.m. advisory. It’s expected to be upgraded to a warning on Tuesday.
Spring officially arrives at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Like our three previous nor’easters, the storm is expected to pack strong winds, gusting up to 35 mph along the coast.
The combination of heavy snow and winds will like cause some power outages.
The NWS says snow is expected to begin late Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday evening.
“Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Wednesday. Tree branches could fall. Significant reductions in visibility are possible,” it says.
