After a disappointing loss in their previous game, the Westport 12-year-old Little League all-stars dazzled at the plate and on the mound Friday night in their final game of Connecticut District 2 pool play.

Westport pounded 11 hits, and two pitchers combined for a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Bridgeport North End at Sicsisco Field in Bridgeport.

Tripp Backus slugged a pair of home runs, while Andrew Speed and Anthony Petrosinelli held North End hitless over four innings in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

The victory evened Westport's record at 2-2 in District 2 pool play. A frustrating 7-5 loss to Trumbull Monday night prevented the team from advancing past Friday's game.

Westport coach Jeff Speed said his team bounced back nicely on Friday after a late rally fell short against Trumbull.

"We're very proud of them coming off a tough loss the other night," he said.

Westport didn't hit in the early innings against Trumbull. But on Friday night, the all-stars came out swinging.

They scored three runs in the bottom of the first, tacked on three more in the second, and then blew the game open with a four-run third.

Backus had three hits, adding a single to his two homers. Meanwhile, Andrew Speed and Petrosinelli excelled with their arms and their bats.

On the mound, Speed did not allow a hit in three innings of work and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Petrosinelli pitched a perfect fourth and got on base three times, rapping two hits and drawing a walk.

Adam Feuer and Max Fiore added to the extra-base barrage with a double each, while Matty Fair and Sam New each had one hit.
