Weston High head coach Joe Lato was selected by the New York Giants as the Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week for Oct. 15.

Named in honor of the former Union High School (N.J.) football coach, the award is given each week to an area coach based on the coach's continuing commitment to promoting youth football, and developing motivated student-athletes. The award also recognizes the coach's overall community involvement.

"I am honored to be recognized in this way, although like everything else about football, our success has been a culmination of constant team effort and commitment year after year," Lato said in a release. "And by team, I don't mean just the players on the field, but also our assistant coaches, parents, the high school staff and administrators, the youth program and its coaches, the cheerleading squad, our fans and countless volunteers."

Weston is 5-1 on the season and will host Stratford on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Lato received a certificate of recognition signed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, as well as a $1,000 check granted to the Trojans' football program.
