The Staples girls team will have a new leader -- yet a familiar face -- this spring as former assistant Patty Kondub takes over from the departed Bob Byiteck. Kondub, a former varsity athlete for the Wreckers in basketball and field hockey, is excited for the opportunity to lead the Wreckers.

Staples lost one All-State performer to graduation in Faith Garcia, but return another in Anelise Browne. Browne is the first golfer in program history to earn the honor as a sophomore and has worked with Kondub since the seventh grade.

"I used to play her for ice cream cones," Kondub said. "It's just amazing how she improves her handicap."

Seniors Mary Bennewitz and Emily Lane also return to the lineup for Staples, while sophomores Erika McMahon, Olivia Wood and Abigail Miller will compete for playing time. Alex McMahon, another sophomore, spend the entirety of last year on the varsity roster.

Kondub is also hopeful freshman Sophie Carozza will make an impact.
