The Staples girls gymnastics team opened its season Dec. 19 at the Greenwich YMCA and swept Greenwich (120.65), Barlow (101.8) and Weston (89.35) with a score of 125.65 to start the campaign off on a positive note.

"Although we need to work out the kinks in our routines, add difficulty and more endurance overall we did quite well," Wreckers coach Kelsey Martin said. "Our goal was to win the meet and we did that. I know that we are not quite in meet shape. We showed great potential today as a team and we need to work on conditioning and upgrading our routines."

Anna Violette scored an 8.6 in the beam and 7.85 in the floor exercise. Deanna Baris scored an 8.0 in the bards, 8.4 in the beam and 8.3 in the floor. Kacey Hertan also contributed with an 8.05 in the vault and 7.7 in the beam.

The next time the Wreckers will be in action is Jan. 4 at the Pomperaug Invitational.
