Little League softball honors Lustbader with Ward Award
Named in honor of longtime Westport softball coach John Ward, who died in 1990, the award is given each year to a player who demonstrated outstanding dedication, leadership, sportsmanship and a positive attitude in their time with the league.
"Emily's actions have represented the best of what we hope for in the league," league vice president Steve Axthelm said in a release, "from supporting her teammates and welcoming teams from other towns, to volunteering to collect hundreds of pieces of equipment for needy young players around the world."
Axthelm added, "She also showed her love for the game by mentoring young players as a coach's assistant and as an umpire. Emily's approach to the game and the way she carried herself as a young athlete on and off the field makes her a truly deserving winner."
