The Staples girls lacrosse team opened the season with a 15-14 home victory over Guilford.

Senior Maeve Flaherty led Staples with five goals. Senior captain Ali Crofts, classmate Jessie Ambrose and freshman Paige Murray scored three goals each for the Lady Wreckers. Juniors Sami Bautista and Ryan Kirshner each scored a goal.

Crofts and Kirshner had two assists each. Ambrose, senior captain Remy Nolan and junior Megan O'Shea each had a helper.

Flaherty had four draw controls while Ambrose and freshman Jenna McNicholas each had two draw controls.

Ambrose, Nolan and Flaherty each had an interception.

Crofts led the way in ground balls with five and Ambrose had three. Ambrose led the team in positive turnovers with three, while senior captain Kenzie Roof, classmate Katie Kleinberg, Crofts,Nolan and Murray each had one.

Junior goalie Kristen Flicker had nine saves and freshman Emma Boland had two.
