Despite falling short on the scoreboard, the Staples gymnastics team feels good about its performance.

Staples dropped to 3-3 despite scoring a season-high 131.7 Tuesday at host Pomperaug (139.05) and Nonnewaug (136.7).

"I thought we did quite well, getting a 131.70, even though we lost to both teams," Lady Wreckers coach Kelsey Martin said. "They are very elite programs."

Floor exercise was Staples' best event where it scored a 35.7. Sophomores Anna Violette led the Lady Wreckers on floor with a 9.25 and classmate Deanna Baris (9) was close behind. Senior captain Emily Fishman (8.85), sophomore Lindsay Kiedaisch (8.6) and freshman Andrea Mahieu (8.4) also did well on floor.

Violette (33.20) was Staples' top all-around performer. She scored an 8.45 on the uneven bars, an 8.2 on vault and a 7.3 on the balance beam. The Lady Wreckers scored a 32.6 on vault, a 32.2 on bars and a 31.2 on beam.

Fishman (32.65) had her best meet of the season and was consistent on beam (8.1), vault (8.0) and bars (7.7). The other three were close in all-around scores.

Kiedaisch (32.3) scored an 8.0 on vault, a 7.9 on bars and a 7.8 on beam.
