Boys basketball -- After opening the week with a pair of wins, Greens Farms Academy suffered its first defeat of the season against Beaver Country Day School on Saturday in tournament play.

The Dragons fell 71-49 in the finals of the BCDS Holiday Hoops Tournament in Brookline, Mass. despite 18 points and 11 rebounds from senior forward Sean Obi. Guard Hunter Eggers and Pat Ryan--both seniors--had 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Playing with only six eligible players on Friday, GFA outran Dexter 76-32. Senior Van Barnet sparked the second half with a tough defensive performance on Dexter's top scoring threat. Eggers scored 25, while sophomore Zack Baines and Obi dominated the paint with 12 points and 11 rebounds, respectively. Junior Matt Tate added 11 assists and eight steals.

The Dragons also defeated two-time defending FAA champion Hamden Hall 86-61 on Dec. 11. Ryan led all scorers with 25 points, while Eggers had 21. Obi added 17 points and Baines scored 16.

Girls basketball -- The Dragons went 1-2 last week and fell in the finals of the St. Luke's Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

The Dragons were plagued by turnovers early in the final against St. Luke's before losing 49-32. Eighth-grader Lexi Kimball and junior Caroline Kruk scored nine points apiece.

In the opening round of the tournament on Friday, GFA took down Montfort Academy 41-34. Kimball scored 14 points, while senior Meighan Grady added 13.

GFA lost to King 35-27 on Dec. 10. Kimball had 11 points, four assists and a pair of steals as the Dragons failed to rally late. Grady and Jessica Liu scored seven points apiece.

Boys squash -- GFA fell to 1-2 on the season with a 7-0 loss to Hopkins School on Dec. 12. Seniors Spencer Hartig and Rashad Nimr, freshman Jack Mackle and senior Reid Manning played strong despite falling to Hopkins, which has three nationally-ranked players.

The Dragons defeated King 6-1 on Dec. 10.

Girls squash -- The Dragons lost to Greenwich Academy 5-2 on Thursday. Sophomore Charlotte Kreitler and junior Rachel Cohen won their matches. Junior Cole Vanacore played a tough match, but fell 3-1.

Wrestling -- Six GFA wrestlers placed in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Shelton Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

At 120 pounds, sophomore Riley Grady wrestled his way to the tournament final, where he lost and finished in second. Sophomore Kourosh Saghri took third place at 126 pounds, while sophomore Jad Qaddourah also placed third at 170 pounds. Freshman Cristian Rivera earned fourth place at 113 pounds.
