The Greens Farms Academy wrestling team defeated host Forman, 66-6, but lost 33-30 to Salisbury, last Saturday.

Freshman Riley Grady (113), junior Brandon Velez (160), and senior Aubrey Carter (138) pinned both of their opponents. The Dragons were strong against Forman, winning seven of the matches with pins.

Although GFA won six of the 10 wrestled matches against Salisbury it ended up falling short because of forfeits.

Boys basketball

The GFA boys basketball team defeated Chase Collegiate, 60-51, and King, 73-67 in overtime last week.

Against Chase, sophomore Matt Tate had 10 assists. Seventh grader Tremont Waters put up 13 points in only 12 minutes of play and added five assists. Junior captain Hunter Eggers had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Dominating the paint was junior Sean Obi (12 points, 14 rebounds, four blocked shots). Classmate Patrick Ryan added 10 points, four rebounds and an assist. Senior captain Brien Comey (Westport), senior Wills Rooney, junior Van Barnet, sophomore Kam Mickens, junior Scott Deutsch (Westport), freshman Zack Baines and senior Will Pavlis also contributed.

Against King, Obi (29 points, 26 rebounds, six blocked shots) led the way. Comey (six points, 10 rebounds), Eggers (12 points, three assists), Tate (six assists), Waters (10 points, five assists), Ryan (10 points five rebounds, four assists) and Baines (five points, six rebounds, one steal) contributed.

Girls Basketball

The GFA girls basketball team lost to Westover, 38-35, and deafeated, St. Luke's, 39-34.

Against Westover, GFA played tough defense in the first half with freshman Lisa Johnson grabbing numerous rebounds and junior captain Meighan Grady forcing many turnovers. The Dragons were led on offense by Westport junior Jessica Liu (eight points), senior captain Bridgette Foster (six points) and sophomore Hilary Shannon (five points). Junior Asya Evans chipped in two points with two steals and freshman Claire Commey (Westport) added one.

Against St. Luke's, Foster (seven points) and sophomore Caroline Kruk were defensive stalwarts. Grady (six points) spearheaded the defense and provided offensive consistency. Shannon provided a spark of the bench with six points and three steals, while freshman Lily Canaan (six points) played big underneath the basket.

Freshman Campbell Goldsmith (six points) hit two 3-pointers and Johnson (six points) sealed the win for GFA with two free throws and was a rebounding force.

Boys Squash

The GFA boys squash team went 0-2 last week losing a close match to King 4-3 and Rye 7-0.

Against King, captain Ryan Schendel playing at No. 4 won his match 3-1, Harry Berman (No. 6) also won decisively 3-0 and freshman Rui Aguiar (No. 7) won 3-0.

Both junior captains Rashad Nimr (No. 1) and Spencer Hartig (No. 2) were unable to finish their matches due to time constraints.

After the close King match, GFA was swept 7-0 by a strong Rye squad.

Girls Squash

The GFA girls squash team went 0-2 last week losing to St. Luke's 6-1 and Greenwich Academy 6-1.

Against St. Luke's senior captain Emily Caldwell (No. 1) won 3-1. Both freshmen Charlotte Kreitler (No. 2) and Paige Soper (No. 8) had very close matches but were unable to come out with victories.

Against Greenwich Academy, highlights came from Kreitler (No. 1) winning 3-1 against a tough opponent. At No. 2 junior Leah Jennings put up a strong fight but lost 3-1.
