GFA spring sports preview
The Dragons will begin their season with a new coach in Jamie Hanford. GFA will look to the leadership of its five returning seniors: Max Tarika, Parker Whitmore, Sam Hodge, Brendan Bieder, and Connor Eckert. Starting in goal will be returning junior Riley Grady. The Dragons will also be returning all three staring defensemen from last season: Dugald Shannon, Whitmore and Hodge. Starting at midfield for the Dragons will be junior faceoff man Sean Kozdeba. Offensively the Dragons will look to midfielders Bieder, Tarika and junior Martin Brennan. On attack, senior Conner Eckert and sophomore Jack Mackle will be staples as freshman Hans Forland and junior Colin Hughes vie for the remaining spot. The Dragons begin their season against Hyde on March 29 at 2 p.m.
GFA is looking to build off its 11-4 record last year that included a return trip to the FAA tournament for the third time in four years. The Dragons are led by senior captain Kaitlin Ball and junior captain Campbell Goldsmith. Seniors Tia Carson, Cole Vanacore, Charlotte Forfang, and senior Katherine Jack will provide additional leadership. Returning juniors Charlotte Kreitler, Nicole Litt and Bella Pisano will provide strength both offensively and defensively in the midfield. Also returning on the sophomore front Ingrid Backe will anchor the team's defense and Lucy Webb guard the cage. Ellie Wong, another returning sophomore, will have an impact on the attacking end of the field. Freshmen Kate Paliotta, Lily Goldsmith, Caroline Rintoul, Maggie Kelly and Eva Scianna are also in the mix. The Dragons start of their season against St. Luke's on April 1 at 4 p.m.

The Dragons return 10 players and bring two newcomers this spring. The team will have experience and power with its three returning singles players. Junior Gabe Tishman, senior captain Kyle Wolfe, who have both won FAA singles titles, along with hard hitting sophomore Cole Rummelsburg. The forth singles spot is open for grabs with juniors Dan Ross, Scott Brown, Reilly Carter and Uday Avula looking to fill that role. The team is also looking for our experienced returning players to excel at doubles as well. The returning players include juniors Firouz Saghri, Kourosh Saghri, Nick Puljic, and Griffin Garner. Freshman William Wappler will also look to make an impact on the team.
After winning both the FAA and New England titles last year, the GFA Girls Tennis team will again pose a strong threat this spring. The Dragons will be anchored in singles by fifth year varsity player and senior captain Frankie Garofalo, fourth year varsity player and senior captain Emily Cahill and eighth grader Devon Wolfe. Two-time FAA doubles champion junior Avery Wolfe, senior Georgie Garner and senior Maggie Sherin will top the doubles lineup along with a strong group of first and second year varsity players. GFA kicks off its season at home March 29 against Miss Porter's School at 3 p.m.
The Dragons will be led by seniors Ben Enelow. Drew Martin, Jeremy Platt and Chris Kondracki this spring. The junior class will be led by Alex and Harry Berman, and Jake Berman. GFA went 3-1 in a four-game stint during spring training in Florida. The offense put up 38 runs in their first three games in the Sunshine State. GFA beings its season against Chase Collegiate on March 26 at 4 p.m.
Led by captains Caroline Kruk and Alyssa Matte, the Dragons hope to remain competitive during a rebuilding season. Joining the team this year are senior Julia Yingling, sophomores Katerine Blesie (Westport), Rory Shinnick and Maggie Boudreau and freshmen Claudia Bernstein (Westport), Kallie Fellows, Shira Friedson and Kayla Hinkson-Grant. Additionally, eighth graders Susannah Johnson and Simmy Sidhu will be getting playing time. The Dragons start their season at Holy Child on March 31 at 4:30 p.m.
This season, the team will be traveling all over Connecticut, from New London to Greenwich, in order to compete against the best schools in New England. Seniors Andrew McCarthy and Allie Nixon return to lead the team this year as captains. GFA starts competition March 26 against Greenwich High School at 3:30 p.m.
Seniors Jack Wood and Mark Whittaker will bring their veteran experience and leadership to a young, promising GFA Golf team. Juniors Ian Bell and Kevin Wong will also return from last season's team. Freshman Dustin Cook, who was an FAA Honorable Mention last season, is looking forward to competing for top honors. Three other returning team members are senior Wyatt Cook, sophomore Lauren Telesz and sophomore Samyukt Kumar. Newcomers expecting to make an impact are sophomore Alex McKenna, freshmen Curtis Tauk and Jack Moley, along with eighth grader Matthew Hochberg. The 2014 season opens on the road against King and Hopkins on April 2 at 3:30 p.m.
