Boys basketball

The Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team lost 58-48 to Rye Country Day School 58-48, and defeat Brunswick School, 51-40 last week.

GFA was 4-3 after beating Brunswick.

Against Rye, junior Sean Obi had 24 points, 23 rebounds and six blocked shots. Junior captain Hunter Eggers had a solid game with 11 points and a couple of assists. Sophomore Matt Tate had five assists while playing a season-high 27.5 minutes.

Seventh grader Tremont Waters hit a 3-pointer for the sixth straight game. Senior Wills Rooney played well defensively in his return from an injury. Freshman Zach Baines pulled down eight rebounds in eight minutes. Senior Brien Comey (Westport), junior Patrick Ryan and senior Will Pavlis also contributed.

The Dragons bounced back Saturday and defeated Brunswick, 51-40 at home and were fueled by a loud standing-room-only crowd. Tate had a career-high 11 assists and Obi had a career-high 30 rebounds. Obi also had 14 points for his 30th consecutive double-double, and five blocked shots.

Comey had 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots. Eggers had 13 points and seven rebounds. Ryan netted six points, and Baines pulled down seven rebounds.

Girls Basketball

The GFA girls basketball team lost to 42-25 at St. Luke's Jan. 5 and dropped to 2-4.

Junior captain Meighan Grady led the Dragons with eight points.

Boys Squash

The GFA boys squash team lost its home-opener, 7-0, to Rye last week.

At No. 1, junior captain Rashad Nimr was competitive and took his opponent to four games. Freshman Scott Brown was competitive at No. 3 in a 3-1 loss.

Junior captain Spencer Hartig, sophomore captain Ryan Schendel, freshman Harry Berman, freshman Griffin Garner (Westport) and freshman Rui Aguiar all put up a good fight against their opponents.
