John Wells, of Waterbury, makes his way out of Candlewood Lake as part of the Penguin Plunge, which raised money and awareness for Special Olympics. He is carrying a chunk of ice he swam out and grabbed. The plunge took place at Candlewood Lake Park, Danbury, Conn, on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Wells said the reason he grabbed the ice was because he saw someone else do it and he wanted to get a bigger piece, but once he got in the water he was so cold he grabbed the first chunk of ice he found and made his way back to dry land. He wore the goggles and snorkel are just for the fun of it and said it was his firs time doing the event. less
