Two overnight shootings reported in downtown Bridgeport
Two people were being treated at Bridgeport hospitals for gunshot wounds and police were investigating after two separate shootings were reported early Sunday.
Around 4 a.m., the city’s ShotSpotter system registered gunfire on Arctic Street in the East Side neighborhood, according to Office of Emergency Management Director Scott Appleby.
A victim later showed up at Bridgeport Hospital with non life-threatening gunshot wounds to the ankle and wrist, Appleby said. He said the victim is not providing much information.
About 20 minutes after the ShotSpotter system was activated on the east side, another victim arrived at St. Vincent’s Medical Center with two gunshot wounds to the lower back, Appleby said.
The victim claimed to have been shot on Fremont Street in the West End neighborhood.
Appleby said the wounds to the second victim are also not life-threatening.
The city police detective bureau has been notified of both shootings, the emergency management director said.
Police asked anyone with information to contact the Bridgeport Police Department via the TIPS Line at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
