FAIRFIELD — A Bridgeport man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on Grasmere Avenue Saturday, according to police.

The Fairfield Police Emergency Communications Center filed several 911 calls about a bicyclist hit by a motor vehicle on Grasmere Avenue near the Home Depot parking lot exit at 541 Kings Highway Cutoff.

Officers first on scene found a 50-year-old Bridgeport man lying on the ground next to a vehicle. Police said he had “severe injuries to his head, face, abdomen and extremities.”

He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by medics, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Saturday night, police said.

A bicycle was found nearby under a vehicle.

Based on the officers’ preliminary investigation, that vehicle was being driven by a 60-year-old Westport man.

Police said the Westport man was pulling out of the Home Deport parking lot on the Grasmere Avenue side when he collided with a bicyclist headed north on Grasmere Avenue.

The collision remains under investigation by the Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
