Police: 41-year-old pedestrian struck and killed on Waterbury street
WATERBURY — A 41-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing a Waterbury street Friday night, police said.
Lt. David Silverio said police were called to the area of 62 Chase Ave. shortly after 9 p.m. on a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
“Preliminary facts revealed that a male was crossing Chase Avenue from the southbound side of the road towards the north side when he was hit by a moving vehicle,” Silverio said in a release. “The pedestrian was struck by an eastbound Honda Civic as he walked into the left eastbound lane of Chase Avenue.”
The driver of the Honda remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by an AMR paramedic at 9:32 p.m. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded and took custody of the dead man.
The identity of the victim is pending confirmation by the medical examiner and notification of next of kin.
The Accident Reconstruction Unit of Traffic Services and the Crime Scene Unit of the Forensic Division responded to assist in this investigation.
“This is an open and active investigation,” Silverio said.
