BRIDGEPORT — One person was taken to the hospital Saturday with multiple gunshot wounds, including to the side of the head, after a shooting on East Main Street.

Police were called to the 1,000th block of East Main Street around 11:19 p.m. after the city’s ShotSpotter system alerted them to a shooting, said Scott Appleby, Bridgeport’s director of emergency management and communications.

There police found a “trail of blood” leading to a local business, where they determined the owner had taken the wounded victim to the hospital, said Appleby.

Around the same time, authorities were contacted by Bridgeport Hospital, who said they had taken a patient in with multiple gunshot wounds, including on the side of the victim’s head.

Police have not yet identified the person injured in the shooting.

Appleby said police have secured the scene of the shooting, and are going to the hospital as part of their investigation.

He said the shooting victim is in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bridgeport Police at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
