GREENWICH — Police released images from a surveillance video of three suspects wanted in connection with a strong-arm hold-up at a Greenwich shopping center Sunday afternoon, and authorities now say they believe the men were behind another robbery in Westport later that day.

Capt. Mark Zuccerella said the three men were driving a stolen Toyota SUV when they approached a young man at the retail strip at 1233 E. Putnam Ave. at about 5:30 p.m. One of the suspects claimed to have a weapon, the captain said.

“The suspects threatened the use of a firearm and robbed the victim of his cellphone and credit card. They fled the scene in the vehicle, a 2018 Toyota RAV4,” the captain wrote in a statement.

The victim told police he was getting into his car near the CVS store, when two men confronted him and demanded that he give them all his belongings. And a third suspect was behind the wheel of the RAV4, police said.

“A similar robbery was committed shortly after the Greenwich incident involving the same vehicle in Westport,” Zuccerella said.

One suspect was wearing a dark down jacket, and another wore a dark jacket. Those two were wearing masks. The other was clothed in a white hooded jacket.

Anyone with information that may assist in identifying the suspects is asked to call Greenwich police at 203-622-8004 or the confidential tip line at 203-622-3333. The email address is TIPS@greenwichct.org.

Westport police said an attempted robbery near Walgreens on the Post Road East was reported Sunday evening.

A woman told police that she “was about to enter her vehicle” when another vehicle, a stolen Toyota RAV4, pulled into a space beside hers.

Two males got out of the vehicle and told her they would “harm her if she did not turn over her keys and other personal property,” said a statement from Westport police.

“When the victim did not comply, the men began to rifle through her pockets,” the statement said. “Unable to locate her keys or any other items of value the suspects fled the scene and were last seen heading towards I-95.”

Before they left, another male joined them in the vehicle, according to the Westport police. The three males wore face masks and black clothes, police said.
