Flooding closes Stamford roads
STAMFORD — A heavy band of rain passing over the city caused a deluge and a few road closures during the late morning on Monday.
Jefferson Street was temporarily closed from Cherry Street and Canal Street due to flooding and Elm Street between Cherry Street to South State Street was also closed. Both streets were opened up at about 1 p.m after the worst of the storm passed.
Lt. Tom Scanlon said tow trucks had to rescue the occupants of two vehicles that were stuck in the water. One of the rescues occurred under the Elm Street Metro North bridge and the other was stranded at Jefferson Street and McGee Avenue.
Newfield Drive was also closed from Newfield Avenue to Shadow Lane due to downed wires.
Dorlen Road was also closed between Oaklawn Avenue and newfield Avenue for a possible water main break caused by the large amount of runoff.
