The Staples girls lacrosse team can not seem to overcome Fairfield Ludlowe.

The Falcons dominated the second half, outscoring Staples 4-2 as Ludlowe beat the Lady Wreckers, 9-8 on Wednesday at Ginny Parker Field in Westport.

"It was a tough match," Wreckers' Head Coach Cathy Schager said. "They're a good squad."

Staples was missing Nikki Seo, its top goal scorer and Schager believes it showed.

"We were a little undisciplined," Schager said. "We had a little trouble keeping our composure sometimes."

Hayley Welke scored three goals and Tierney Larson added a pair as the Falcons won their seventh in eight games and improved to a school-best 8-2.

Staples led 6-3 with 3:28 to go in the first half, but Larson and Sarah Nesi both tallied right before halftime. Ludlowe took the lead on a goal by Nesi with 22:11 left and never trailed again.

"I think both teams played with a lot of heart," Schager said.

Staples lost for the fourth time in its last six games dropping to 6-5 on the year. Sophomore Maeve Flaherty scored three times and Adele Mackey scored twice for Staples.
