Op-ed / Why to vote Costello for probate judge
I am excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of Weston and Westport as the next probate judge. I have the requisite experience and desire to help my community. Giving back to my neighbors and being of service to others has always been very important to me.
At the beginning of my legal career, some 21 years ago, I reached out to various community organizations to volunteer my time in providing free legal advice to those in need in Fairfield County and throughout the state of Connecticut.
As a volunteer, I have provided legal advice and services to senior citizens in skilled nursing facilities throughout Fairfield County.
For more than 20 years, I have represented women and children victims of domestic violence in court proceedings throughout the State of Connecticut on a pro bono and reduced-rate basis.
Since 1993, I have had the privilege of teaching topics in probate law on the college level. This invaluable experience demonstrates my thorough knowledge of probate law.
I have served as both the attorney and conservator in hundreds of probate matters involving proceedings dealing with those in our community who have difficulties in managing their own affairs.
I have represented minor children and acted as guardian ad litem in contested custody proceedings throughout Connecticut, being the voice for these children who otherwise would have no voice in the system.
Over the years, I have settled hundreds of decedent's estates and have drafted more than 2,000 wills.
In summary, through my work over the course of the last two decades, I have demonstrated my strong commitment to our community and towns, and I have the necessary skills and experience to bring to the office of probate judge for Weston and Westport.
I ask for your support and vote on Nov. 5.
