Sheriff's deputies are searching for two men involved in a possibly drug-related shooting Friday that left one man dead inside a car at a northeast Harris County shopping center.

The dead man, the driver, was shot and killed about 6 p.m. at the Aldine Bender Plaza in the 5600 block of Aldine Bender.

Sheriff's detectives said the driver and a passenger had earlier picked up two men at a nearby apartment complex.

"Shortly after that, the suspects attempted to rob them. There was a brief struggle in the car and the driver suffered a gunshot wound," said Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County sheriff's homicide unit.

The car careened through the lot, striking other vehicles parked in front of stores.

Deputies were initially called to the scene to investigate what was thought to be a car crash.

"They found the driver of a silver Impala had an apparent gunshot wound to the head," Beall said.

The suspected gunmen got out of the car and ran toward the nearby apartment complex where they had been picked up. Sheriff's detectives did not have a detailed description of them.

Deputies are questioning the man who was with the driver at the time of the fatal shooting.
