WESTPORT — Winners in the Westport Arts Center’s 5th annual Toy Maker Competition were announced at the recent Family Art Day: All About Toys.

In addition to honoring young toy designers, families gathered for the event to experiment with colors, design and unusual materials at the arts center.

The competition featured original toy designs by children 5 to 12 years old that arts center officials described as “unique, original and imaginative, easy to use and understand, and could be re-created and produced in a real life scenario.”

Finalists in the competition presented their toy designs to judges Lindsay Heffernan, Westport Arts Center’s director of education, and Dave Yearwood, general manager of Shake Shack in Westport.

Winners were:

Age 5-6: first place — Rose Porosoff, “Steery Wheely;” second place — Morgan Bernard, “Make Your Own Snowman/3D Princess Plates”

Age 7-9: first place — Jonathan Stekloff, “Magical Maze;” second place: Benjamin Porosoff, “Dot by Dot ABC”

Age 10-12: first place: Jessica Stekloff, “Stem Journal.”

First-place winners in each of the three age groups received a $50 Shake Shack Gift Card, a Boundless Brooklyn Shake Shack Model Kit, and a scholarship to a Westport Arts Center summer camp of their choice. Second-place winners for ages 5-6 and 7-9 received a gift certificate to the Westport Arts Center and a gift basket of toys from Learning Express Toys of Westport.
