Young musicians to join mentors in May 18 concert

Young musicians from eight Fairfield County schools will join the Westport Community band for an inter-generational concert on Friday evening, May 18.
The concert is planned at 8 p.m. in the Bedford Middle School auditorium. The performance marks the 16th annual "Play with the Community band" project, the band said in a news release.
The student musicians, all middle-school age, were nominated by their respective school-band directors and have been rehearsing with the Community Band under its director, Sal LaRusso. LaRusso also is director of the Weston High School band.
Adult musicians in the 65-member Community Band look forward to mentoring the youngsters, the band said. Some 900 young musicians have participated since the program began.
Participants this year are from are from the Middlebrook School, Wilton; the Reed Intermediate School, Newtown; the Side By Side Charter School in Norwalk, the Christian Heritage School in Trumbull, Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield, St. Jude School in Monroe, Ridgefield Academy in Ridgefield and the Weston Middle School.
The Westport Community Band is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that draws musicians from across Fairfield County and from out of state.
