The head of a group that uses basketball as a means of international diplomacy will speak to the Y's Women at the group's meeting Monday, Feb. 13, at the Unitarian Church in Westport.

Weston native Michael Evans, founder of Full Court Peace, will speak on the topic "Sports Diplomacy Here and Abroad: How Basketball Can Change the World." Coffee is planned at 11 a.m., followed by the talk at 11:30. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Evans, 29, played basketball at Hamilton College and is the varsity basketball coach at Stamford Academy Charter High School in Stamford.

In Northern Ireland, he assembled the first high school basketball team comprising five Catholic and five Protestant boys who came from segregated schools, Y's Women said in a news release.

Currently, he is using basketball to try to improve U.S.-Cuban relations and has built courts in Ciuidad Juarez, Mexico.
