A local woman faces charges after police said she left her infant child alone in a car, its engine running, outside a local supermarket on a hot day.
Milan Kunajukr, 30, of Compo Road North was charged Saturday with risk of injury to a child and leaving a child unsupervised.
Police were called to the parking lot of Whole Foods, 399 Post Road West, about 7:20 p.m. Saturday to investigate the report of an infant left unattended in a vehicle.
Officers found the vehicle, unlocked and its engine running, with the infant inside. Kunajukr exited the store and returned to her vehicle a short time after officers arrived. Even though the temperature was in the mid-80s, police said the air conditioning had keep the vehicle interior cool.
Witnesses told police the child was alone in the care for about seven minutes, according to the report.
The child’s father was called to the scene to take custody, and the state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
