Forget Obama vs. Romney, Murphy vs. McMahon, Steinberg vs. Rubin.

Ballots in the big Battle of the Buttons are in, and the winning logo selected for this year's First Night Westport/Weston button is by graphic designer Miggs Burroughs, which renders "2013" in multi-color dripping paints. The image depicts the new year's numerals as though painted by a child, along with the First Night website -- -- and the logo of toymakers Melissa & Doug , the button sponsors, according to event organizers.

The buttons, which provide admission for all the New Year's Eve events planned for First Night Westport/Weston, go on sale at a discounted early price of $10 on Thursday, Nov. 29, during the "Ring in the Season" celebration in the Great Hall of Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 75 Church Lane, following the town's Christmas tree lighting at Town Hall.

After Dec. 15, the First Night ticket button will cost $15. Locations where tickets can be purchased, beginning Dec. 1, are: Westport Public Library, Westport Weston Family Y, Trader Joe's, Oscar's Deli, Weston Hardware and TD Bank office on Main Street.

The 19th annual First Night Westport/Weston will feature a range of entertainment and events, designed for people of all ages, in downtown venues from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31.

Organizers are looking for volunteers to help plan the event in conjunction with local merchants, town officials, vendors and local talent. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Barbara Pearson-Rac, president of the event's directors, at

Contributions are also sought, made out to "First Night Westport/Weston." The donations should be sent to First Night Westport/Weston, P.O. Box 745, Westport, CT 06881. Contributors can specify if they want some or all of their contribution earmarked for the Button Giveaway Program in which buttons are purchased for families who cannot afford to attend the event. Last year, 150 buttons were purchased through the program, according to organizers.
