A Westport woman spent her summer interning at Youth Villages, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families.
As an intern, Joanna Hillary Gross helped children in Youth Villages' care learn positive behavior and deal with past trauma. The junior at the University of Michigan is majoring in psychology with minors in medical anthropology and writing.
Youth Villages, based in Memphis, Tenn., provides programs to help children who have suffered abuse or neglect or who have emotional and behavioral issues.
