An exhibit of works by Westport painter Leonard Everett Fisher will be on display through June 2012 at the Jewish Institute of Religion Museum at Hebrew Union College in New York City.

The exhibit opened this month, and an artist's reception is scheduled Oct. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the museum.

Fisher's career has included contemporary painting, the illustration of more than 200 books, commissions by the U.S. government to design postage stamps and work as a World War II map maker, according to the museum.

His works have encompassed the Bible, American and Jewish history and the trajectory of his own life, the museum said.
