Steve Folb, of Westport, has been lauded by the American Cancer Society for helping lead the five-year, $4.8 million fundraising drive that resulted in the opening of its new regional headquarters in Norwalk.
A real estate developer, Folb served as chairman of the cabinet, heading a group of Fairfield County residents in campaigning for funds. Ground was broken last June at 38 Richards Ave., and the C. Anthony and Jean Whittingham Family Building opened April 26. The new center serves cancer patients, caregivers and others for support groups, community education and volunteer training.
Patient services provided there include nutritional counseling, multilingual materials, free wigs and prostheses.
Folb, like others who support the cancer society, has a family connection to the disease. His mother was a breast cancer survivor and two of her siblings died of the disease.
