Westport woman allegedly drunk during car crash

WESTPORT — A town resident who caused a car crash while a child was in her car was allegedly drunk at the time of the November incident.
Police found Valerie Spinola caused a crash that resulted in injuries on the evening of Nov. 27 near 1819 Post Road East, after which she was taken to the hospital. Suspecting the 53-year-old was intoxicated at the time, an officer obtained her medical records and found her blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit at the time of the incident, during which a minor was in her car, according to police.
Spinola, a resident of Hales Court in Westport, turned herself in to police March 28 for the warrant out for her arrest. She was charged with operating under the influence with a child passenger, operating under the influence and failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
Spinola was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond ahead of an April 7 court date.
