Today promises to be sunny -- as northwest winds chase away yesterday afternoon's clouds -- but this Thanksgiving eve will also be chillier.

Daytime highs on this heavy travel day will be about 48 degrees under bright skies, with winds of between 15 and 24 mph, gusting as high as 36 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be partly cloudy, with a low around 39. Those northwest winds will calm to between 9 and 16 mph.

The outlook for Thanksgiving Day is not a meteorological feast. The NWS service says there is a 50 percent chance of rain, mainly after 4 p.m. Skies should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 47 degrees.

There will be occasional rain Thursday night, with a low of about 43. South wind will be between 8 and 13 mph.

Rains are expected to continue Friday, but the daytime high is expected to a little warmer at about 53 degrees.
