Westport weather: A sunny interlude between showers

Patchy fog envelopes part of southwestern Connecticut as the work week gets under way today, but as the skies clear later, the sun will shine most of the day.

In an altered forecast, the National Weather Service -- which yesterday said today would be cloudy with a chance of showers -- now says fog and clouds today should gradually give way to sun, with a daytime high temperature of about 77 degrees.

Tonight, clouds and fog move back in overnight, as the temperature dips to the mid-60s.

Tomorrow, the NWS says there is a slight chance of showers after 1 p.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 75 degrees. Showers are likely tomorrow night, mainly after 8 p.m. It will be cloudy, with a low around 64.

Showers are likely Wednesday, with thunderstorms also possible after noon, the NWS predicts. Skies will be cloudy, with a high near 72 degrees and an east wind around 15 mph. There remains a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night, with a low temperature around 64.

There is still a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. Otherwise, skies will be partly sunny, with a high near 73 degrees. Precipitation is also possible at night, when temperatures fall to about 60 degrees.

Friday, the weather service predicts, will be mostly sunny, with a high near 70 degrees.
