WESTPORT — The Westport Public School System’s web site was awarded the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Communication Award during an April 2006 Board of Education meeting.

CABE serves local and regional boards of education. Its mission is geared towards "improving the quality of education throughout the state and the nation."

The honor is predicated upon keeping communication open between schools and parents and on the quality of the design and content during the 2005-2006 school year.

"It is important for the community to be aware of the exciting activities and events taking place in our schools each day. They are your supporters and you need them," CABE stated.

Archie Ealm, a member of CABE’s board of directors, said that Westport’s school website had been "on the radar for some time" and constituted a "superbly done piece of work."

In a letter Superintendent of Schools Elliott Landon wrote that the school website earned honorable mention from CABE in 2003 and was a finalist in 2000 and 2002.

To qualify for the honor, which was established in 1975, websites are judged on their graphics, scope, impact and value of effort, Ealm said.

Ealm added that the Westport school website has a bright future, “It’s going to get better and better and I look forward to much more great stuff to come out of Westport.”
