A candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Westport featuring Board of Education candidates is scheduled Monday, Oct. 3, in the Town Hall auditorium.

The forum is planned from 7 to 8 p.m. and is co-sponsored by the Westport Woman's Club and the Y's Women. The town election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

School board candidates expected at the forum are: Democrats Michael Gordon and Mark Mathias and Republican Jeannie Smith, the league said. Each will be asked to answer questions collected from the audience, and then they may make a closing statement.

The moderator will be Charlotte Garrell of the League of Women Voters of Fairfield.

The forum will be broadcast on Cable Channel 79, and viewers may submit questions by email to lwvdebates@gmail.com.

The program will be rebroadcast at 8 p.m. on three consecutive evenings -- Friday, Oct. 7; Saturday, Oct. 8, and Sunday, Oct. 9.

The forum is one of several initiatives under an awareness campaign launched by the league called "My Town, My Vote." The purpose of the campaign is to encourage greater participation in the local election, the league said.

Positions are being contested for local boards, commissions and the Representative Town Meeting.
