Jessica Speart, a writer who focuses on wildlife and endangered species, will speak to the Y's Women on Monday, Oct. 10, at the Unitarian Church in Westport. Coffee is planned at 11 a.m., followed by the speaker program at 11:30.

Speart has written investigative pieces about wildlife and drug trafficking for publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Audubon and National Wildlfe. Her first non-fiction book, "Winged Obsession: The Pursuit of the World's Most Notorious Butterfly Smuggler," is about efforts to capture Yoshi Kojima, an illicit trader of butterflies and other insects.

Speart also has written 10 novels involving the central character Rachael Porter, a fish and wildlife agent.
