Westport resident Amy Oestreicher will bring her unusual cabaret show, "Gutless & Grateful," to the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport for shows on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday June 2.

In an eclectic set of songs, the 26-year-old Oestreicher recounts her near-death experience as a teenager and tells of her struggles, disappointments, triumphs and the humor in her life, according to her publicist.

When she was a high school senior in Fairfield and aspiring musical-theater performer, Oestreicher developed a blood clot. Her stomach exploded in the operating room, both of her lungs collapsed and she was in a coma for three months. The ordeal left her unable to eat or drink for two years.

But three years and 24 surgeries later, her digestive system had been reconstructed and she began putting her life together.

The show has played in New York over the past year and now has several tour engagements.

The Bridgeport performances are Saturday, June 1, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m.
