Two Bridgeport women were arrested Saturday night for allegedly stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Westport clothing store.
Police said Josheka M. Harper, 28, and Ebony M. Harper, 31, were spotted by security of a Post Road business cutting tags off of items and hiding them in a shopping bag. Alerted to the alleged crime, at approximately 6 p.m., Westport police took up positions in the vicinity of the store and then took the women into custody when they exited the store. Police said approximately $1,300 worth of merchandise was recovered.
Both Josheka and Ebony Harper were arrested on charges of fourth-degree larceny, possession of a shoplifting device and conspiracy to commit larceny. Their bond was each set at $5,000 and they are scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 30.
Police said Ebony Harper was on parole for a larceny conviction so she was remanded to the custody of the Connecticut Department of Correction for a parole violation.
