A knife-wielding bandit held up a Post Road East pharmacy early Friday, stealing several boxes of prescription pain killers.
The man entered the CVS at 397 Post Road East about 5:45 a.m. and approached the pharmacy technician on duty. Police said he pulled out a large knife from under his jacket and demanded that she give him the drugs, Duragesic and Fentanyl, which are pain killers for moderate to severe chronic pain.
Several medical web sites state the drugs are potent pain killers that may be targets for abuse.
The technician opened the pharmacy safe, police said, and the suspect grabbed two handfuls of the medication and fled from the store's rear door.
The suspect was described as a white male, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, and wearing blue jeans, a navy blue windbreaker jacket, a white scarf covering his face, black knit hat and sunglasses.
Police dispatched to the scene launched a search for the man, assisted by a K-9 unit from State Police.
The search so far has been unsuccessful.
Westport police ask anyone who may have information about the robbery to contact the department's Detective Bureau at 203-341- 6080.
