A teenage ballerina from Westport is preparing to perform in the American Ballet Theatre Crops de Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker."

Paulina Waski, 16, has joined the elite company as an apprentice and will dance in the Snow and Flowers variations of the classic holiday ballet, according to a news release.

This year's production premiers at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where performances are scheduled Dec. 8 to 11. It then moves to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for a three-week run, from Dec. 14 to 31.

The production is choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, the American Ballet Theatre's artist in residence.

Waski stays in New York City during the week, where she dances and takes school courses online, but returns home to Westport on weekends, according to the release.
