Westport Y open today as cooling center

With a heat advisory in effect today as temperatures climb to the upper-90s, the Westport Weston Family Y will open to the public this afternoon as a cooling station.
Family Y officials said non-members could visit the Y for free Saturday between 12:15 and 5:30 p.m. to use its swimming pools or just cool off.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for southwestern Connecticut, saying the combination of heat and humidity could make the region's "heat index" feel as hot as 104 degrees. In combination with an air quality alert, people are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity.
Y officials said the Stauffer Shallows Pool will have an open swim Saturday from 12:15 to 4:30 p.m; the Stauffer Pool, with its one-meter diving board, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and the shallow, warm-water Brophy Pool from 2:15 until 5:30 p.m.
The Family Y closes Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
