Workshops in basic knitting instruction will be offered starting Friday at the Westport Library.

The workshops will take place at noon in the library’s seminar room. Additional sessions are planned Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and Nov. 6 in the Great Hall.

The workshops, led by Andrea Dener, is designed both for beginners and those whose skills need refreshing. Dener is a Craft Yarn Council-certified instructor.

The workshop will review techniques such as how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off. The first session will focus on making a scarf. Participants, who are welcome to bring projects they are working on, should come with size 8 knitting needles, 9 or 10 inches long and a skein of a light-color, worsted-weight yarn (look for “4” on the label), according to library publicity of the program.

Starter kits will be available for sale at the program for $15.
