The Westport Public Library will sponsor a poetry contest for Westport students as part of a WestportReads 2012 program focusing on the late aviator Amelia Earhart.

Pupils may submit an original poem related to the concept of flight for the Flight of Imagination Writing Contest from Thursday, Dec. 1, to Friday, Jan. 13.

The theme book for the WestportReads community reading project is the novel, "I Was Amelia Earhart."

The poetry competition, divided into three categories for elementary, middle and high school students, is designed to encourage a common community dialog inspired by literature, according to a release from the library.

Submission guidelines and the prizes for winners are available at www.westportlibrary.org. For information, contact Jaina Lewis at 203-291-4809 or jlewis@westportlibrary.org, or Kris Nash at 203-291-4813 or knash@westportlibrary.org.
