One of the most beloved scenes in author Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," is the Mad Hatter tea party.

To mark Carroll's 182nd birthday, the Westport Library and the Y's Women of the Westport Weston Y, are throwing a Mad Hatter tea party on Friday, Jan. 24. The event, at 2 p.m. in the library, will feature a parade of hats judged by a local artist in three categories: "Most Romantic," "Most Amusing" and "Maddest!" Prizes will be awarded. Davids Tea will provide tea, and other refreshments will be provided by the Y's Women.

To get ready for the Mad Hatter tea party, there will also be a pre-party hat-decorating session on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the library's seminar room. Participants should bring a hat to decorate and trimmings. Extra trimmings and a glue gun will be provided.

Space is limited for the tea party; register online at No registration is necessary for the hat-decorating session. Both events are free and open to the public.
