WESTPORT — The Westport Electric Car Club will host a representative of Tesla, the much-talked-about electric automaker, at its Thursday meeting.

Will Nicholas, Tesla’s government relations manager, will be at the 5:30 p.m. meeting in the Dragone Classic Cars showroom, 176 Post Road West. The meeting is open to the public free of charge.

Nicholas will bring a Tesla Model X vehicle to the gathering; the first deliveries of that model began at the end of 2015, and by March, was the second highest volume EV seller after Tesla’s other vehicle. He will also describe Tesla’s Model 3, the newly unveiled $35,000 EV for which there are already more than 250,000 pre-orders, according to Tesla. Production on it begins next year.

He will also discuss Tesla’s efforts sell vehicles directly to customers in Connecticut, which currently does not permit sales without dealers’ involvement.
