Republican Tom Lasersohn was unanimously approved Wednesday night by the Board of Finance to fill a vacant seat on the panel.

Lasersohn succeeds Charles Haberstroh, who resigned last December to replace Gavin Anderson on the Board of Selectmen.

Lasersohn joins the Finance Board after being endorsed last month by the Republican Town Committee. Since 2001 he has worked as a private investor after having spent 16 years in various positions at Goldman Sachs in New York City.

"Westport, like other towns, is going to have some difficult choices in terms of reconciling revenues with expenses and trying to maintain the level of services that residents expect," he told the Westport News.

"I've been in finance my entire career, and I thought I could help."

Lasersohn and his wife, Helen, have lived in Westport since 2004 and are the parents of two children who attend Coleytown Elementary School.
