As part of its upcoming "Toy Stories" exhibition, the Westport Arts Center is hosting a toy design competition for children ages 5 to 14.
Kids can submit up to three designs on paper for fun-to-play-with objects, whether it be an educational toy, action figure, product to play with outdoors, stuffed animal, doll series or animated mechanical robot, according to a release from the center. Entries are due by Friday, Feb.10.
Local educational-toy makers Melissa Doug will serve as judges for the competition and dole out first, second, and third-place prizes. The first-place winner will have his or her toy design exhibited in the center's gallery for the last week of "Toy Stories," and will have a soft toy replicated by Child's Own Studio, a company specializing in custom-made soft toys. Second and third-place winners will receive a toy gift basket, courtesy of Melissa & Doug, and all submissions will be displayed in a loop on a monitor in the gallery during the exhibition as well as on the website.
The exhibit will run Jan. 27 to March 18. Hours to the gallery, 51 Riverside Ave., are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
