WestConn soccer players awarded

The awards are piling up for members of the women's soccer team at Western Connecticut State University.

Goalkeeper Caitlin Avery and midfielder Nicole Sieber were both named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Performance Subaru Women's Division III All-New England Regional First Team on Tuesday.

Also for the Colonials, Tina Dias and Sieber were named to the 2010 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Division III All-New England All-Star Team.

Avery is coming off a solid first season for the 15-5-1 Colonials. She allowed just eight goals in 20 games and registered a 0.45 goals-against average with eight shutouts. Avery and Dias were key components on one of the finest defenses in the region. Avery had to make just 48 saves in more than 1,600 minutes of action and comprised a .857 save percentage. WestConn shut out a program-record 13 straight opponents this past season and appeared in its ninth NCAA Tournament.

Sieber, a former Immaculate High star and a graduate student participating in her final year of eligibility, finished third on the team with six goals and six assists for 18 total points.
