John Laux, 53, of 7 Vineyard Lane, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police were notified by a motorist that Laux was driving erratically on Compo Road South. Officers subsequently stopped him in the area of 149 Cross Highway, where they allegedly detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Laux was placed under arrest after failing a field sobriety testing. He refused to take the Breathalyzer test at police headquarters, police said. Bond was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear Sept. 16 in Norwalk Superior Court.
