The Unitarian Church in Westport has named a religious educator from Danbury as its new director of religious education.

Mary B. Collins held a similar position at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury, the Westport church said in a news release.

She has a degree in early childhood education from Southern Connecticut State University and has held a variety of posts in that field, the church said. She also has worked as a magician and storyteller.

"Mary brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, electronic skills and creative energy to her new post," Chuck Colletti, chairman of the church's board of trustees, said

in the release.

Collins is working with church officials and instructors to refine classes for children and adults, the church said.

She replaces Perry Montrose, who resigned to take a similar position at the First Unitarian Society in Newton, Mass.

The Westport church

has planned an open house for Sunday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m. for individuals and families interested in learning more about Unitarian Universalism and the church's programs.
